reflection journal 2 for topic 4 for Technology and Language Learning by mutmainnah sec d 2010120004

After i read the article about characteristics of digital media, surely i say that computer is very usefull for us. Especially as the generation of teacher it will be usefull for us for make the proccess of teaching and learning more easly. Based on the article i know that computers provide so many media for teaching and learning. And i think it can make our teaching and learning proccess more effective rather than use tradisional tools.

                Based on the article, we know that technology give so many advantages. As we know that as a student  we have so many assignment in each course. And i think  Microsoft office, mr.google, and a lot of software are very close with us when we did our assignment, because it makes us more easly to do our assignment. For example : we used microsoft word  to make this reflective journal and the other journal , and also we used microsoft power point to make a group presentation, then when we have some projects, usually we used some kinds of software from the computer. It showed that technology has the important effects in teaching and learning process.

                In contrast, technology is not only has the possitive effects but also it has the negative effects.  As we know that in indonesia there are some phenomenon of the negative effects of technology, such as “kutu internet” which is can make people be lazy to do her/his activies because he/she just standing in front of the computer.  This is only one example of the negative effects of the technology. there aer so many other negative effects of technology.

                As a result, we , as the generation of teacher  should  give the treatment to our students to used technology wisely and make sure that our students understand about how to used technology wisely. I think it will decreased the negative effects of technology. and i hope by using technology our teaching and learning proccess will be more effective.

                I just want to say something that as SSE students we have one moto “together we can make a different”. So we have to be the real generation of teachear. Thanks.... *_*

reflection journal for humanistic studies 1

At the first I heard Humanistic Studies I think that it is about humans live, such as the environment, the regulation, culture, and so on. And then my lecturer told me that this course is about multiculturalism and religion around the humans live.

            My expectation in this course is I hope I can understand about humans live and I will get good score in all assignment. And also I hope I can apply my knowledge about human study in my real life because as a teacher I want to be a good model for my students. If I can understand about humans live and apply it in my real live I can be a good person for my country.

            Actually, I know from my lecturer that this course is about multiculturalism and religion. I think it will be very interesting course because it is related to our life; especially it is like a relationship in social human live.

            I have read for topic 1, and this is about identity and culture. In my opinion identity is related to culture. We can know someone’s background from her/his identity. Such as name, home town, and the family name or in Indonesia we called it ‘marga’. Sometimes we can guess someone’s culture from her family names, for example: there is a man named Yoga Tambunan, and there is a woman named Nining Heningtyas. From this case we can guess that the man is from batak people or manado people because his family name is showed that he is one of these culture. There are so many family names in batakness, such as tambunan, tobing, parjuangan and so on, that’s why we can guess that the man may be one of these cultures. While the woman, we can guess that she is from sundaness, because the characteristics of sundaness is has some repeated word in her/his name. But, as a result we cannot judge someone’s culture only from her/his name, we have to know her/his background also, because we only can guess, it’s mean that it can be right or wrong. Everyone has their own choice to make her name.

The other example is from my class. Actually I have so many friends from other culture. For example my friends from Java are very different with my friends from Palembang. They are showed different ways in accent. My friends from Java are more slowly and they have low voice in speaking, in contrast my friends from Palembang have loud voice in speaking and also they have their own accent. Not only from Java and Palembang but also I have some friends from Kalimantan, Lampung, and Jakarta.

            Talk about culture is very interesting for me. My culture is betawi because I come from Jakarta. Betawi has its own language. The characteristics of betawi language are they changed some letter become ‘e’. For example: the word “ iya, kemana, kenapa” are become “iye, kemane , kenape.” But I think it is more simple rather that other languages in Indonesia because it is similar with Indonesian language. In addition there are some other betawi languages, such as “nyo, bagen, kulon, wetan, obonk.” These kinds of words are including in betawi language, but it is different with the first one. This phenomenon showed us that Indonesia has so many culture and languages; even I just know from Semantic and Lexicology course that there are 700 languages in Indonesia. It is very awesome for me. 

            From the explanation above, as a result I’m very proud of Indonesia. Because as Indonesian people we are very rich of culture, and as a good Indonesia people, we have to care and save the culture of Indonesia. I love Indonesia, I will be a good person for you.

The first time with PETA course is very interesting for me. when i heard PETA i think is just about map, geograph lesson, or something like that. But, from the first meeting i just know that peta is about the principles to becoming a teacher. About how to be an effective teacher, and also how to do a good assessment.

I really like this course because the lecturer in this lesson is very kind and friendly. I hope i will get closer with her. Hhee....

When we was beginning the lesson it was very interesting because the lecturer gave the command to work in group and it made us easier to did it. And actually i like to work in group rather than just work with my self  because it is make me easier to do something. If i work in group i can share my knowledge also i can get some knowledge from my friends, so it will be usefull for me.

This course began with an effective teaching and an effective teachers topics. Which is very usefull for me to know how to be an effective teacher. Even i learned so many perspectives about what is characteristics from an effective teaching and an effective teacher. There are so many perspectives about effective teaching that i have known , such as classroom management, active learning, good lesson plan, and so on. And also there are some perspectives about the characteristics of  an effective teacher including good looking, wise, interactive, they have so many the way of teaching, and so on. Well, from this topics, i got so many knowledge about how to be an effective teacher.

Oummm,,,

Well, i remember one statement from my lecturer slide about an effective teacher. Just like that “an effective teacher make student learn, the great lecturer inspired”. This statement is very inspired me to be an effective teacher. I think it’s really a good statement, and it can inspired not only me but also it can inspired everyone.

Know, it’s time to me to show up my self in this course. I will do all the assignment well, and also be understood all the materials, and get the good score. I hope i can raise all of my expectation in this course, and be the best teacher in the future.

One more time,, i want to say hello with my beautiful lecturer  miss Ine. I hope you will be happy to teach us. Thank you miss.

Technology and Second Language Teaching

            Technology is a tool for help human to doing something. That is my opinion about technology. Then, after i read the article about technology and second language teaching, i know that actually technology is not only usefull for help human to do something but also it is very usefull for learning language. In this article, showed that technology as the  medium to learn language in some methodologies of learning.

            As i know from the article and from educational psychology course that learning has some methodologies. Such as grammar translation-method, Audiolingual-method and so on. Then, In each type of methodologies has had its own technology to support it. Based on the article,in 1970s the audio-tape or we called it tape-recorder is one of the perfect  medium in Audiolingual-method, to emphasized learning trough oral repetition. In contrast, the blackboard, projector, and was improved to computer software are the medium in grammar-translation method. So  If  i compare these methodologies, i do not know exactly what is the best method to learn language because each method has its own perspectives in learning like cognitive or sociocognitive approaches.

            From the explanation in paragraph 2 , i think that use technology in learning and teaching language is more easier and save the time and also more effective to make the students get the material. It is showed in case study from the article. That it is very usefull to use technology in language learning either in foreign or bilingual language.

            In addition, nowadays there are so many technology as a medium in language learning, such as printer, computer, e-book, teleconfrences, and so on. These kind of technology are the medium to learn language in speaking, listening, reading, and writing aspect. So , i think that technology is powerfull to use in language learning. But, without technology we still can teaching, learning and do something. Because the main idea is not technology but the human itself. Technology just tools for make easier, but human are the main actors in learning language.
